Before purchasing a home, I was oblivious to what this tax exemption was, how to go about applying, deadlines and so forth. Now that I am a homeowner, it saves us money so therefore it is extremely relevant! So, below is a basic rundown on the Florida Homestead Exemption.

 What is the Florida Homestead Exemption and what are the benefits?
The Florida Homestead Exemption offers most homeowners a tax deduction on their primary residence. The deduction has a $25,000 value off of their property's assessed value which translates to saving several hundred dollars in taxes. 

What property qualifies for a Homestead Exemption?
Many types of home dwellings qualify for Homestead Exemption: single family residences, condo's. co-op apartments as well as some mobile homes.

How to apply and what's the deadline?
March 1st is the deadline. There is late acceptance through September 1st BUT I strongly encourage you to file as soon as you receive your deed (generally in the mail, 4 to 6 weeks after closing).
